Prayer

Praying is one of those things in the Christian life that is really, really hard. Perhaps that is why it is called a spiritual discipline. It would be remiss to talk about evangelism and the gospel without addressing the role of prayer. Prayer is a vital part of the evangelism process because when we pray it connects us to the heart of God which enables us to see what God is doing in the world and to love people as God loves people. Praying evangelistically means we intercede for those who are not yet believers. Intercession has been defined as an earnest appeal on behalf of others or intervention in someone else’s battle.

Richard Foster says, “Intercessory prayer God extends to each of us a personalized, engraved invitation to become intimately involved in laboring for the well being of others.”

It is critical we understand the necessity and power of prayer as we think about those people in our lives who are far away from God. We must remember that salvation is God’s work and it is through prayer that we are empowered by the Holy Spirit for witness.
