Care
At the core of our Christian life must exist a deep and abiding value that God has a mission to find lost and hurting people. From Genesis to Revelation, the good news of the reign of God is proclaimed and demonstrated over and over again. Micah 6:8 says, “He has shown all you people what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God”
Matthew 25:37-40 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”
As Christians we are called to participate in God’s mission. We follow in the ministry of Jesus with acts of compassion, mercy and justice in our broken world. These acts witness to people that God reigns. Often our actions speak louder than our words. As the church, the body of believers, we have the opportunity to demonstrate to the world a new reality. The kingdom of God is about healing, restoration, food, clothing, shelter, grace, mercy, peace and forgiveness to the lost, the last and the least among us. One of the best questions we can ask ourselves when thinking about evangelism is…how can I care about somebody today?
